YEMEN MOCHA COFFEE When we hear the word "mocha" we are reminded of our favorite ice cream and cake flavor. But Mocha is more than just flavor, it is a unique coffee found only in the land of Yemen. Yemen Mocha coffee is known for it s superbly aromatic flavor and chocolate tones.
The name "Mocha" was attached by mistake to Yemen coffee. "Al –Makha" is a port on the west coast of Yemen. During the 17th century when coffee was just beginning to become popular to Europeans, the chocolaty flavor of Yemen coffee caught their attention. Instead of calling it Makha, the Englishmen pronounced it as Mocha. From then on it was not corrected and Mocha was used as the name of the coffee from Yemen.During the 15th to the 17th centuries, Yemen Mocha was a port city famous for being a major market place for coffee. Yemen Mocha coffee is grown in the highlands of Yemini Mountain, where the altitude reaches as high as 3,000 meters above sea level. The coffee is cultivated with the traditional organic system and blessed with the fertile soils of the terraces. The mountains around the area served as natural canopy to the coffee, protecting it from the direct sunlight which could be damaging to the beans. Mocha coffee of Yemen has great demand outside the country, which only leaves a small percentage for local consumption. Yemen Mocha coffee is more than what we usually know as flavorings of our favorite cake. Yemen Mocha coffee is famous for its distinct taste; among the most unique tastes are nutty, malty, fruity, winy, chocolaty and most of all exotic. The combination of perfect geography, climate, fertile soil and the traditional organic farming has maintained the reputation of this coffee to be the most popular and loved coffee in the world. |
