The Blue Mountains, where the estate is located, reaches to a height of 7,402 feet above sea level. This is where Jamaican coffee got its name, from the famous the mountain where it thrives. Certified Blue Mountain coffee is only those grown in the Blue Mountain region. Of the 30,000 acres of land devoted to coffee production, only 9,000 acres are officially classified as Blue Mountain. What are these peabearries? It is normal to pick around 5% peaberry in every harvest. On the average a tree may yield 5% peaberries and 95% flat berries or regular berries. This extra ordinary bean contains a single round bean instead of two beans. Peaberry is a welcome fluke of nature. This coffee bean is also known as caracoli, it is an oval or pea shaped bean. Both flat berries and peaberries are harvested at the same time. The Blue Mountain Peaberry is separated from the rest of the regular berries. This Blue Mountain unique peaberry does not split unlike the flat ones. Coffee Industry Regulations Act requires Blue Mountain Peaberry to be 96% peaberry and that no more than 2% of the coffee beans may have significant defects.
